In most recent studies, 73% of Parramores 2,000 children lived in poverty and 84 percent were in single parent households. Forty-seven percent of Parramore adults had neither a high school diploma nor GED
and median household income was $13,613. Parramore had the City's highest rate of reported child abuse and neglect, a juvenile arrest rate 2½ times that of Orlandos citywide rate and a teen birth rate nearly six times the rate of the surrounding county.
Although most of the pictures on our web site show the nice side of things, reality is that Parramore is a very run down area.
New Image Youth Center began in the summer of 2004 as a Summer Camp. Each day the kids began their morning with a hot and tasty breakfast, and devotion. Afterwards they spent the rest of their day doing arts & crafts, playing sports, out on educational field trips, and more. Our youth enjoyed hot meals for lunch daily, and healthy snacks.
Afterwards the youth continued to call me, (Shanta the director) desiring to come back. At that point I decided to continue New Image as an after school program for school-aged children.
